Using this site

CoinsCanada.com is a free public reference. There is no account to create and nothing to buy. There is an email list you can join and a form you can write to, and neither is required to read anything here. Using the site means you accept what is on this page.

You may read it, print it, quote it, link to it and use the figures on it for your own purposes. What you may not do is scrape it in a way that degrades it for other people, or present it as your own work.

Nor may you use the site, the form or the email list to:

• send unsolicited commercial messages, harvest addresses, or submit anything unlawful, misleading or malicious;
• impersonate anyone, or send a message on behalf of a person who has not asked you to;
• interfere with the site or the servers that carry it, or attempt to reach any part of it that is not published; or
• represent this site as endorsing, appraising, grading, authenticating or certifying any coin, dealer, auction house or grading service.

Access may be restricted where any of that is ignored. Anything you send through the contact form or the signup is something you are entitled to send.

Accuracy

The figures here are reproduced from the Royal Canadian Mint’s published record, or calculated from it, and every page names its source and the date that source was retrieved. We take that seriously and the build carries automated checks against externally verifiable facts.

It is still possible for something to be wrong. A source page can change after we mirrored it. A parser can misread a table. A sentence can overstate what the data supports. If you find any of those, tell us and it will be fixed and logged in public.

The site is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose.

Not advice, not an offer

Nothing here is investment, financial, tax or legal advice. Nothing here is an offer to buy or sell anything, an appraisal, or a valuation of any particular coin.

A melt value on this site is the market value of the metal in a coin. It is not what a dealer will pay you, it is not what a collector would pay you, and on a scarce coin it can be a small fraction of what the coin is worth. This site publishes no collector values at all, and explains at length why not. Decisions about buying or selling coins are yours.

Prices from third parties

Metal prices come from third-party market feeds and are indicative rather than tradeable quotes. Exchange rates come from the Bank of Canada and are daily average rates, subject to the Bank’s own terms at bankofcanada.ca/terms. We do not control those sources, cannot guarantee their availability, and take no responsibility for their accuracy. Where a feed fails or returns an implausible figure, this site shows nothing rather than showing a number.

Intellectual property

Coin specifications, mintage figures, design descriptions and effigy notes are the published work of the Royal Canadian Mint, reproduced here with attribution and a link on every page that uses them. Rights in that material remain with the Mint. CoinsCanada.com is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Royal Canadian Mint or the Government of Canada.

The writing, the derived calculations, the page structure and the design of this site are ours.

Nothing on this site reproduces the Charlton catalogue or the price data of any grading service. Those are proprietary works and this site holds no licence to them.

Reusing our work

If you want to quote a figure from this site, please do, and please attribute it to its actual source rather than to us: the specification came from the Royal Canadian Mint and we did the arithmetic. A link back is appreciated and is not required.

If you want to republish the whole dataset, use the Mint’s own pages. They are public, they are the authority, and going to them directly means your figures do not inherit any mistake of ours.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, CoinsCanada.com is not liable for any loss arising from use of this site or reliance on anything published here, including any loss on the purchase or sale of coins or metals.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid to use this site, which is nothing.

Links to other sites are provided for convenience. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or their practices.

Changes to the site and these terms

The site is provided as it is on the day you read it. We may change, add to, suspend, restrict or discontinue any part of it at any time, including any page, dataset, derived figure, calculator, feed or URL, and we are not obliged to keep any of it available or to keep any URL working.

We may also add commercial features. That includes advertising and sponsorship, further affiliate arrangements alongside or in place of the eBay one, a newsletter and other email to people who ask for it, paid or subscriber-only material, and arrangements under which a reader who asks to be put in touch with a dealer, refiner or auction house is introduced to one. Adding any of them changes nothing about the two positions this site is built on: the figures are derived from the Royal Canadian Mint’s published record and no commercial arrangement can move them, and this site publishes no collector or catalogue values. That second one is not for sale either.

These terms may be updated. The date at the top of this page is the date of the current version, and a material change is dated here when it is made. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law rules, and the courts of New York have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, subject to any mandatory consumer protection provisions of your own jurisdiction. This is a site about Canadian coinage and it is published from the United States; the subject and the publisher are different things. If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
